1. IIFT Delhi: What It Is and Where It Stands
The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade was established in 1963 as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, and was granted Deemed to be University status in 2002 (IIFT official information bulletin, MBA (IB) for Working Professionals 2026-29). That lineage is the first thing to understand: IIFT is not an IIM and does not sit under the Education Ministry. It was set up to build skills for India's external trade sector, and the curriculum still reflects that mandate.
The institute earned AACSB accreditation in November 2021 and was The institute earned AACSB accreditation on 17 November 2021 and was accredited Grade "A+" by NAAC in its 3rd cycle in 2023 (IIFT official MBA (IB) for Working Professionals 2026-29 information bulletin).. It is ranked 17th in the Management category with a score of 62.93 (NIRF 2025, nirfindia.org Management ranking), having been ranked 15th with a score of 62.36 the year before (NIRF 2024, nirfindia.org).
IIFT runs four campuses: Delhi, Kolkata, Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, and GIFT City in Gujarat. The flagship is the two-year full-time MBA (International Business), a six-trimester programme carrying 120 credits: 63 core, 36 elective, 3 for a foreign language taught in French or Spanish, and ...a six-trimester programme carrying 120 credits: 63 core, 36 elective, 3 for a foreign language taught in French or Spanish, and 18 across two comprehensive vivas, the Social Awareness Programme, the summer internship, a port visit and a research project (IIFT official MBA (IB) full-time programme page).. Delhi additionally runs the full-time MBA (Business Analytics), a weekend MBA (IB) for working professionals, an online MBA (IB) and MA Economics.
2. Admission Route: How You Actually Get In
For the MBA (IB) and MBA (BA) 2026-28 batches, IIFT used the CAT 2025 score for shortlisting and selection. It did not conduct a separate entrance test for its full-time programmes, and the prospectus states plainly that the IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in the conduct of the programme (IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28).
The process runs in two stages. Candidates are first shortlisted on the CAT score and other defined parameters, then called for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview conducted in physical mode at Delhi, Kolkata, Kakinada, GIFT City, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow and Mumbai.
Eligibility is a recognised Bachelor's degree of minimum three years' duration in any discipline with at least 50% marks, relaxed to 45% for SC, ST and PWD candidates. Final-year candidates may apply, subject to submitting proof of the qualification by 31 October 2026. There is no age limit and no work-experience requirement.
Seats for MBA (IB) are 240 each at Delhi and Kolkata, 120 at GIFT City and 120 at Kakinada, reserved as per Government of India norms. The application fee was ₹3,000 for General, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates and ₹1,500 for SC, ST, PwD and Transgender candidates (IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28).
There is no state-quota or CAP route here. IIFT is a central deemed university admitting on an all-India basis, so a Delhi domicile buys you nothing. The weekend MBA (IB) for working professionals at Delhi is a separate door: it accepts a CAT, XAT, CMAT, ATMA, MAT or GMAT score from 2024 or 2025, or IIFT's own Written Ability Test, each followed by an interview, and requires three years' managerial experience plus an employer NOC (IIFT official information bulletin, 2026-29).
3. Fee Structure (What Is Officially Published)
IIFT does not publish the incoming batch's fee in advance. The 2026-28 prospectus states in capitals that the exact total fee for the MBA (IB) 2026-28 batch will be informed to students when offer letters are sent. What it does publish is the previous batch's total, and that is the only honest planning number available today.
In one line: the Delhi MBA (IB) total for the 2025-27 batch was ₹21.82 lacs including boarding and lodging, and your own 2026-28 figure arrives with the offer letter, not before.
| Campus | Total fee, MBA (IB) 2025-27 batch | Refundable security |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | ₹21.82 lacs | ₹10,000 |
| Kolkata | ₹21.32 lacs | ₹10,000 |
| Kakinada | ₹19.68 lacs (excluding boarding & lodging) | ₹10,000 |
| GIFT City | ₹19.68 lacs (excluding boarding & lodging) | ₹10,000 |
All figures above are AY2025-27, IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28. The fee covers tuition, boarding and lodging, and charges for library, computer and internet facility, medical insurance, and the alumni and students' body. SC, ST and PWD candidates receive a 50% concession on tuition fee only. The prospectus notes the amount varies if accommodation is allotted on single or triple occupancy. On withdrawal, fee is refunded per UGC guidelines and the refund process takes at least two months.
The full-time MBA (Business Analytics) at Delhi is priced separately at ₹17,87,506 total with a ₹5,000 refundable security for the 2025-27 batch, and it is a completely non-residential programme (AY2025-27, IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28).
4. Cutoffs and Shortlisting: How to Read Them
IIFT does not publish a category-wise CAT percentile cutoff table for the MBA (IB). The shortlisting weightage split for the current cycle is [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27]. IIFT issues a Selection Criteria notice under Latest Updates on iift.ac.in each admission cycle, and that document, not a forum estimate, is the only binding statement of how the composite score is built. The 2026-28 version is no longer live on the site now that the cycle has closed.
What is officially stated is the mechanism: IIFT shortlists on the CAT score plus other defined parameters, then decides on the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28). Any single "IIFT cutoff percentile" circulating online is a reconstruction from calls candidates reported receiving — not a number IIFT published, and it moves every year with the applicant pool.
Two practical consequences follow. First, your CAT score buys a call, not a seat: a real share of the decision happens face-to-face in the GD and PI stage, which rewards preparation of a completely different kind. Second, and this is the trap that costs people a shot every year, a CAT score alone does not put you in IIFT's pool. You must separately register on IIFT's own application portal and pay its fee before its deadline, which for the 2026-28 cycle was 28 November 2025, the day before the CAT 2025 exam itself.
5. Placements: What Is Verifiable
IIFT publishes its own final placement report, which makes this one of the better-documented records outside the IIM system. In one line: for the MBA (IB) batch of 2023-25 the median CTC was ₹26 L against an average of ₹31.30 L across 135 recruiters, and that ₹5.30 L gap tells you most of what you need to know.
| MBA (IB) batch | Average CTC | Top 25% CTC | Highest CTC | Recruiters |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-23 | ₹29.10 L | ₹46.50 L | ₹85.40 L | 108 |
| 2022-24 | ₹27.30 L | ₹40.60 L | ₹85.40 L | 120 |
| 2023-25 | ₹31.30 L | ₹49.60 L | ₹1.23 Cr (international) | 135 |
Source: IIFT official Final Placement Highlights 2025, plus the IIFT official Industry Connect page, which additionally records a ₹26 L median CTC, a ₹72 L highest domestic CTC and 7 international positions for 2023-25.
The median is the number to plan on. Half the batch sits at or below ₹26 L, while a top quartile at ₹49.60 L and a ₹1.23 Cr international offer drag the average more than five lakh above it. IIFT's own NIRF submissions give a longer median series for its two-year PG programmes: ₹24,00,000 for the 2021-22 graduating batch, ₹26,50,000 for 2022-23, and ₹25,00,000 for 2023-24, with every graduating student placed in each of those three years (NIRF 2024 and NIRF 2025, IIFT submission). The median fell between the last two years even as averages rose.
One honest limit: IIFT reports MBA (IB) placements for the programme as a whole and does not split Delhi from Kolkata.
6. Campus, Hostel and Living Costs
The MBA (IB) is a fully residential programme and all students are required to stay in the hostel, with room type — single, double or triple — allotted at the sole discretion of the Institute (IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28). Hostel is therefore not an optional line you can cut, and you do not choose your occupancy.
A standalone hostel and mess figure is [FIGURE MISSING — AY2026-27]. IIFT does not publish one for the MBA (IB), because boarding and lodging is bundled inside the campus total: the ₹21.82 lacs Delhi figure for the 2025-27 batch already contains it. The prospectus adds that the total varies with single or triple occupancy. The Kakinada and GIFT City totals explicitly exclude boarding and lodging, so those campuses need a separate budget line.
The Delhi campus sits on 6.5 acres in Qutab Institutional Area and houses two academic blocks and two residential blocks for students and visiting faculty, with a further residential facility a short walk from the main campus. Facilities include air-conditioned lecture halls, an auditorium seating 450, two computer labs, indoor games and a sports ground, with campus-wide wi-fi. A second Delhi campus at Maidan Garhi, spread over 5.6 acres, is under construction (IIFT official Prospectus 2026-28).
The MBA (Business Analytics) at Delhi is completely non-residential, so accommodation in south Delhi is your own arrangement and your own cost on top of the published fee.
7. Who Should NOT Choose IIFT Delhi
If your single objective is MBB strategy consulting or a front-office investment banking seat, this is not the sharpest instrument available. The older IIMs and XLRI still run deeper funnels into those particular roles. IIFT's strength lies in trade, export-import, international marketing, global supply chain and BFSI, so go where the roles you want do their hiring.
If international business bores you, the curriculum will feel like a tax. Trade operations and documentation, international economics, a compulsory foreign language and a port visit are core requirements, not electives you can route around. Someone who wants a general marketing or HR MBA is paying two years of specialisation for something they will never use.
If you cannot stop working, the full-time programme is closed to you: it is fully residential by rule. The weekend and online MBA (IB) variants exist, but with different admission routes, fees and placement support. Do not assume the full-time placement report describes them.
If you are financing the whole thing on debt and you are risk-averse, sit with the arithmetic before you accept. A residential two-year fee in the low twenties of lakhs means the repayment plan has to be built on the median outcome, not on the highest package in the report. Half the batch, by definition, lands at or below that median.
And if campus scale matters, 6.5 acres is compact next to the larger IIM campuses.
8. How IIFT Delhi Compares
Compare on the decision axis that actually applies to you, not on a composite rank. All ranks below are from the NIRF 2025 Management ranking published on nirfindia.org.
- Versus MDI Gurgaon, NIRF 2025 rank 9. Axis: generalist NCR brand against trade specialism. Both fish in the same Delhi NCR recruiting pool. MDI carries the broader general-management signal; IIFT carries the international-trade identity and the Commerce Ministry lineage. If you want to be read as a trade or supply-chain person, IIFT frames you better. If you want optionality across functions, MDI does.
- Versus XLRI Jamshedpur, NIRF 2025 rank 10. Axis: which function you are entering. XLRI is the clearer call for HR and for the consulting funnel. IIFT competes on international business, trade and BFSI. Settle this on the job description you want in two years, not on the rank gap.
- Versus IIM Lucknow, NIRF 2025 rank 5. Axis: brand breadth against domain fit. If your CAT score opens both doors, IIM Lucknow's brand travels further across sectors. IIFT is the more precise choice only if you specifically want export-import, trade policy or global supply chain roles.
- Versus SPJIMR Mumbai, NIRF 2025 rank 20. Axis: city and admission philosophy. SPJIMR admits you into a chosen specialisation inside Mumbai's financial ecosystem. IIFT admits into a common programme in Delhi, with a Kolkata, Kakinada and GIFT City network attached.
Check affordability before choice filling
Admission route, eligibility and preference order come first. As one decision checkpoint, enter the loan you may need to see the EMI and total interest before locking a college in your counselling choices.
Standard reducing-balance arithmetic on the numbers you enter — your actual rate and moratorium terms depend on the lender. The 40% ceiling is this site's own ROI rule: an EMI above 40% of take-home leaves nothing for rent, food or savings.

Frequently asked questions
Which entrance exam does IIFT accept for the full-time MBA (IB)?
For the MBA (IB) and MBA (BA) 2026-28 batches, IIFT used the CAT 2025 score and did not conduct a separate entrance test for its full-time programmes. The prospectus states that the IIMs have no role in IIFT's selection or in running the programme. You must also file IIFT's own application form and pay its fee separately, because a CAT score alone does not enter you into the pool.
Do I need work experience to apply to IIFT's full-time MBA (IB)?
No. Eligibility is a recognised Bachelor's degree of at least three years in any discipline with minimum 50% marks, or 45% for SC, ST and PWD candidates, with no age limit and no work-experience requirement. Final-year students may apply subject to submitting proof by 31 October 2026. The separate weekend MBA (IB) for working professionals does require three years of managerial experience.
How does IIFT shortlist candidates for the GD and PI round?
IIFT shortlists on the CAT score together with other defined parameters, then calls shortlisted candidates for a Group Discussion and Personal Interview held in physical mode at Delhi, Kolkata, Kakinada, GIFT City, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow and Mumbai. The exact weightage split is published in IIFT's own Selection Criteria notice under Latest Updates on iift.ac.in each cycle, so read that document rather than forum estimates.
Is the hostel compulsory at IIFT Delhi, and what does it cost?
Hostel is compulsory. The MBA (IB) is a fully residential programme and all students must stay in the hostel, with single, double or triple room allotment decided solely by the Institute. IIFT does not publish a standalone hostel or mess fee, because boarding and lodging is bundled into the campus total fee, and the prospectus notes that total varies with the occupancy type allotted.
What scholarship and education loan support does IIFT offer?
IIFT runs a Merit-cum-Means scholarship disbursing 20% of the programme tuition fee to 10% of admitted students across its full-time programmes, open to families earning under ₹8 lakh a year and released on completion of each trimester. Central schemes are applied for through the National Scholarship Portal. IIFT separately lists education loan tie-ups with fourteen lenders on its website; you apply to the bank directly.
How should I verify the latest IIFT Delhi admission route?
Start with CAT and the institute selection process. Then match the current prospectus, application notice and counselling schedule on the official authority or institute website. A route from an older cycle should not be assumed to remain unchanged.
How should I read the IIFT Delhi cutoff shown on this page?
Read the exam, year, round, category, quota, branch and closing-rank or percentile label together. A cutoff from another category or an earlier round is not a promise of admission in the current cycle.
How do I confirm the complete fee for IIFT Delhi?
Use the current official fee notice and add tuition, development or university charges, deposits, hostel, mess and other compulsory costs. Ask for the payable amount and refund terms in writing before transferring money.
Extended admission FAQs
Do placement figures guarantee an outcome at IIFT Delhi?
No. A highest, average, median or placement-rate figure describes a particular batch and methodology. Prefer a completed, dated report with batch size and branch-level context; it cannot guarantee an individual salary or job.
Can anyone guarantee direct admission to IIFT Delhi?
No counsellor can override eligibility, merit, counselling or the institute's published process. Use only official portals and receipts, and do not pay an individual who promises a confirmed seat outside the documented route.
Which documents should I prepare for IIFT Delhi admission?
Keep the current exam scorecard, identity and nationality proof, Class 10 and 12 records, leaving or transfer certificate, allotment letter and payment receipt. Domicile, category, income, NCL, EWS, migration, gap or NRI documents apply only where the current authority requires them.
What should I compare before placing IIFT Delhi in my preference list?
Compare the exact branch or programme, admission probability, total cost, location, accreditation, published outcomes and a realistic fallback option. Never list a college you would be unable or unwilling to join if allotted.
What if a current IIFT Delhi figure is still unverified?
Treat it as pending rather than filling the gap with an aggregator estimate. Use the previous completed cycle only as historical context and wait for the competent authority or institute to publish the current figure.
How current is the information on this IIFT Delhi page?
The page shows its publication or update date and keeps changing figures tied to an academic year. No page-specific primary source is registered yet, so current figures require direct verification.
How can Future Career Guidance help with IIFT Delhi admission?
We help interpret eligibility, compare realistic options, organise documents and build a preference or application plan. We do not guarantee allotment, bypass merit or collect unofficial cash premiums for seats.
Which source takes priority if two IIFT Delhi figures conflict?
Use the newest document issued by the competent counselling authority, regulator or institute for the same year, quota and programme. A dated primary document takes priority over an undated webpage, brochure summary or third-party listing.
